Welcome to our Clinics for the 2007 Season. We also do Mini-Workshops for small and large groups from a variety of Equestrian Topics. Contact us for additional information.
Please review the following outlines and then register using the registration link on our Web Site or give us a call at 419-655-2253 for prices, days and times of offerings. We will contact all web site registrants with details.

IMPROVING YOUR CONTESTING SKILLS
 
 
 
 
Day 1
Intro (est. time 1 hr)
- Introduction to pattern, barrel, pole, speed & control, flags, cones and barrels
- “How you think of the patter” riders draw out the pattern as if they were running it
- Explain accuracy over speed
- “The 3 T’s” where are they and what they mean
- Time saving, where you start, where you should be, and where you end.
- Types of bits to use, proper tack
Saddle up
1. Basics  (30- 45 mins)
- The pressure point, how to hold the reins, where, and when
- Your legs, understanding what leg pressure, in what spot, how hard and what it will do
- Sitting your seat, forget your stirrups, where to grip, how to grip and what it will do for you (ride with no stirrups or bare back)
- Eyes up, feel your horse
- Collection
2. Barrels (walk – trot) (30 – 40 mins)
- Go through pattern one time each evaluate areas(seat, reins, 3 T’s, legs, horses actions)
- Go through pattern a max of 4 times for each horse, explain why
- Each time through the pattern will vary for each riding depending on their evaluated areas. Instructor will explain why and how to fix areas.
- When riders are comfortable stirrups and/or saddle will be removed. Explain why
Break for lunch (horses will be un-tacked and rested)
3. Poles (walk – trot)  (30 mins)
- Go through pattern one time each evaluate areas (seat, reins, 3 T’s, legs, horses actions)
- Go through pattern a max of 4 times for each horse, explain why
- Each time through the pattern will vary for each riding depending on their evaluated areas. Instructor will explain why and how to fix areas.
- When riders are comfortable stirrups and/or saddle will be removed. Explain why
- Flying lead changes, figure 8s.  work on collection
4. Take 15min for your horses
- Time to get drink, relax, ask question
5. Cones and barrels (Walk – trot) (25min)
- Go through pattern one time each evaluate areas (seat, reins, 3 T’s, legs, horses actions)
- Go through pattern a max of 4 times for each horse
- Each time through the pattern will vary for each riding depending on their evaluated areas. Instructor will explain why and how to fix areas.
- When riders are comfortable stirrups and/or saddle will be removed.
Day 2
6. Speed and control (walk – trot) (30 – 45 mins)
-    What do before this pattern, calm horse down, walk in ring and box
- Getting your horse in the box
- Turning in the box
- Horses favorite lead (no way to circle)
- Not knocking down the box, seat hand voice
- Go through pattern one time each evaluate areas (seat, reins, legs, the T, horses actions)
- Go through pattern a max of 4 times for each horse
- Each time through the pattern will vary for each riding depending on their evaluated areas. Instructor will explain why and how to fix areas.
- When riders are comfortable stirrups and/or saddle will be removed.
 
7. Take 15min for your horses
- Time to get drink, relax, ask question
8. Flags (walk – trot) (35 – 50 mins)
- Control and balance (activity: trot by while trying to hit instructors hand)
- Angle of pattern, time saver
- Where to hold stick
- Go through pattern one time each evaluate areas (seat, reins, legs, horses actions)
- Go through pattern a max of 4 times for each horse
- Each time through the pattern will vary for each riding depending on their evaluated areas. Instructor will explain why and how to fix areas.
- When riders are comfortable stirrups and/or saddle will be removed.
break for lunch (horses will be un- tacked and rested)
9. Circle & taking off points & ending points (walk – canter) (20-30 mins)
- Get lead for the direction going
- How wide, how long
- Look, look, look!
- Where to take off at (time saver)
- Come back straight. Understand angles and your timer
10. Take 15min for your horses
- Time to get drink, relax, ask question
 
11. Put it all together  (45mins)
- All patterns will be set up for final evaluation
- Students may run the pattern a max of 3 times
- Walk them out
12. Closing (20mins)
-  Re-cap, final questions
-  What to work on
-  Conditioning your horse
-  Relaxing your horse (not souring your horse)
